Leo is an entertaining theatrical watch. But, it’s not the best one from Lolesh Kanagaraj.
For starters, the plot of the film revolves around Jagadesh who loves happily with his family. What happens when some brug mafia members turnup at his door strp saying he is Leo forms the rest of the plot. I felt like the story was draggy and the runtime could have been reduced.
I confess that I am a fan of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s direction. This film begins with a wild chasing sequence of Hyena. Which you will remember in the end because the aspects of actor Vijay’s character in the film is linked with the Hyena. Just like how the social animal comes out of it’s group amd resides alone till Parthiban’s family adopts him. Just like the animal he forgets his pack and past self while he is with his family. He then protects his house and family hiding his past self no matter what. But his violent self does come out in the end and hunts the other predators just like the Hyena. Oh man, and actor vijay has showed his skill after a long time in Leo
Another aspect I really liked in the film is the character of Napoleon and how he is mistaken to be a careless cop. Gautam Vasudev Menon adds strength to the film. But I expected more from the characters Harold Das and Antony Das played by Arjun and Sanjay Dutt.
A powerful scene is where Parthiban’s son throws Javelin at him showing the apple does not fall far from the tree.
The biggest negative point in this film is how much ever villains keep popping up. they are not even able to get near the shadow parthiban which looked unrealistic. Another important con is though you see how the family is getting affected you are not able to relate to it so their feelings don’t affect you. Which I think is not Lokesh’s stromg suit.
Some fight sequences were really great for example the climax sequence, introduction sequence and the fight with Sandy’s gang. But the car chase could have been better. The CG of the sequence could have also been better as the CG in Hyena sequences. The flashback sequences were the most unrealistic and I don’t think you should burn any drug because it just causes more people to inhale the drug and become addicts.
The female characters did not have much power in this film. It looks like a common trait in Lokesh’s film except Vikram which has Agent Tina to compensate. In Leo the only strong female character is Elisa Das who os killed off in 10 mins. Kudos to Madonna Sebastian for nailing that role.
I expected more on the BGM side from Anirudhu like the banger ones in Vikram and Jailer. After watching the film my favorite track is Karu Karu Karupayi, only mext to Naa Ready.
