Dream (Korean)

Park Seo Joon as yoon Hong-Dae in Dream (2023)

Dream is a light hearted and enjoyable sports movie that has its heart in the right place.

Full Disclosure : I do not know anything about football or soccer other than what is shown in Ted Lasso. So, I let’s just focus on the movie aspect. I onpu began watching the movie for Park Seo Joon because I am a big fan of Itaewon Class.

The korean film Dream begins splendidly as it shows a self-centered football player who wants to become famous. As he becomes a troll content he is pushed into teaching a group of homeless people for an international even for homeless people.

One thing I would really appreciate about the makers is. Them focusing on Homeless World Cup because I did not know such a thing exists. Kudos to them for also acknowledging it’s not popular as the football matches shown doesn’t have a huge number of audience.

I loved how each team member or homeless person who is a part of the team has a reason whh they are in the team playing football.

Now, let’s talk about Park Seo Joon as the coach. With a very shaky past, he is shown as a self centered person who only cares about other if it has something good for him. He also literally reads from a script of he has to do a motivational speech.

Another important character that is written lously is Lee So-Min played by Lee Ji-eun. She is a documentary director who is filmming about the players and their match. But, never have I even any director with a camera that’s so small that someone can mistake it basic handycam used at home. At first her character is interesting as she states true facts/life lessons with a sarcastic laugh but I guess the writers forgot about this trait in the next scenes.

Other supporting actors and their stories were also good. Personally, I liked the old lady who enjoyed football and her admirer who plays for the team. I would also like to appreciated the writers as they did not show they swooped all medals in the international event. Instead, they just win one match after huge efforts. But, it was also an opportunity wasted as It was not nail-biting.

Music and other aspects of the film were not distinguishable.
